Winemaker Notes
Our first ever Syrah completely from the Walla Walla Valley. The 2015 vintage was so warm, all of our Syrah came on at once and we quickly picked our blocks so as not to allow them to become over ripe. These wines were hand sorted and about 25% whole cluster fermented. We cold soaked all lots prior to native and selected yeast strains taking on the fermentation and they went through all-natural secondary fermentation in barrel. The lots were aged sur lie in French oak barrels and puncheons for 16 months without racking prior to being bottled. The finished blend ended up being 60% from Loess Vineyard and 40% from Les Collines Vineyard — all co-fermented with 5% Viognier. It is dark red in color, and opens up with red raspberry, menthol, tobacco and a nice smoked meat note. This vintage could do with a bit of time in a decanter or bottle as it has some nice lush and firm tannin, but an awesome, racy streak of acid to balance and a long finish. We are so happy to offer you a 100% Walla Walla Valley Syrah.
